Cream Pots
We have been keen
Cream Pot collectors since the 1976, my dad taking most
interest in them. With few exceptions the
majority of Cream Pots produced in the
late Victorian and Edwardian period were designed
for only one trip. Having emptied
the contents the Cream Pot would have been thrown
in the rubbish bin, or dumped
in the dump at the bottom of the garden. This was
not always the case as many
people lived in crammed tenements.
Private dumps such as Victorian or Edwardian
mansions usually yield good Cream Pots,
my dad dug a mansion dump outside Dumfries and
found some rare large Cream Pots.
Dunragit Creamery, Wigtownshire,
The Dunragit Creamery, opened in 1882, merged with the Valleyfield Dairy
Company in
1891 to form the United Creameries Company. About 300
people were employed at
the creamery and a special workers' train operated
between Stranraer and Dunragit
in the morning and evening. The creamery closed in 1989
