Ginger Beer Bottle

Here's the
photo of the John Andrew ginger beer bottle. My friend Hughie found it
while he was digging
up the car park of the bowling green in Auchinleck. (mid '90's
I think)
He was told the following story by elderly friend of my Mum's, Mrs Violet
Little
of Glaisnock Street who is sadly no longer with us. She passed away a
number of
years ago. Even though she was in her 80's, she still had a mind like a
steel
trap.
She remembers John Andrew being a chemist who worked in Cumnock. As a
wee
sideline, he made ginger beer in his spare time in a building on the Gas work
Brae in Cumnock. He also delivered his wares with a horse and cart as far away
as
Dalmellington, which is around fourteen miles away. (a fair old trek on a
horse and
cart eh?) Although she wasn't sure, Mrs Little believed that John
Andrew was the
forerunner of Curries who produced lemonade in Auchinleck,
Hamilton and Dumfries.
